Our Barn: A Place to Belong

Built for Access. Expanding Our Impact.

Our barn is where inclusion and belonging for people of all abilities will flourish for generations to come.

A Look Inside The Barn

Inspired by traditional barns, reimagined for modern  inclusion

Every square foot is designed with purpose — from accessible work areas to spaces for gathering, learning, and creating.

How Our Barn Creates Real Inclusion

  • Creating spaces that welcome and work for all.

    • Wide, smooth paths and roll-in work areas make farming accessible.

    • Adjustable benches, tables, and tools allow every body to participate.

    • Thoughtful barn lighting and acoustics ensure comfort for many sensory needs.

  • Weather-safe barn means no one is sidelined by any season.

    • Enclosed, covered work areas keep activities going—rain or shine.

    • Ongoing participation allows deeper engagement and skill development.

    • Off-season farm activities become possible.

Every season becomes a season for inclusion.

  • Growing skills, confidence, and opportunity together.

    • On the job training in the barn's retail shop.

    • Paid internships and post secondary education.

    • Farm and garden classes that are open to all.

When contributions are valued,  empowerment grows.

  • A barn where every harvest is handled with care.

    • More cold storage keeps food and flowers fresh.

    • Dedicated work zones streamline washing produce and making bouquets.

    • Efficient systems mean more produce reaches the community, not the compost.

More of our harvests make it to our community.

  • Where work, learning, and joy come together under one roof.

    • A flexible barn layout for workshops, shared meals, and maker markets.

    • Room for inclusive gatherings, performances, and seasonal celebrations.

    • The barn becomes a shared table where relationships take root.

    When people gather, belonging grows.

Construction is already underway.

Your support helps us grow our capacity—welcoming more people, creating more opportunities to participate, and strengthening the work happening across the farm.
All gifts are tax-deductible and support accessible work, learning, and connection at Common Roots Farm.

Why We Need the Barn

Without an accessible, weather-safe space, our farm has to close for nearly four months each year. When that happens, the purpose, belonging, and connections people build here are disrupted.

Our participants share why this barn matters and what it will make possible.

All gifts are tax-deductible and directly support accessible work, learning, and connection at Common Roots Farm.

This barn builds on what’s already thriving at our farm – a sense of belonging. We'll have year-round space to welcome more people of all abilities and create new opportunities to be part of the farm.

Become a builder of a place to belong.

All gifts are tax-deductible and support accessible work, learning, and connection at Common Roots Farm.

Common Roots Farm began with a simple belief:

belonging can be built.

We understand what it feels like to see people we care about excluded from opportunities to connect and contribute to the community. That frustration — and hope for something better — is what drives everything we do.

In 2016, a small group of families and friends started to turn an empty 4.5 acre parcel into a thriving inclusive farm where people of all abilities grow food, flowers, and friendships side by side.

A group of farm participants stand together outdoors, smiling and raising their arms while holding a large crate filled with freshly harvested apples.

Nearly a decade in, Common Roots has shown that when we design with and for people with disabilities, everyone benefits.

Here’s what we’ve built so far — and why we’re ready for the barn.

15+

Accessible Features
Integrated on the Farm

4,000+

Pounds of Fresh Produce Grown Annually for Our Local Community

1,925+
